Highland Campgrounds has been a family run business for over 36 years.
Highland Campgrounds was the brain child of John and Ruth Walker who were avid campers. Their dream was to build a campground deep in the woods of the Endless Mountains, with over-sized sites surrounded by flora and fauna. Their vision came to be in 1973 when they purchased a plot of land, here in Wyoming County. With the gently rolling hillside and old growth forest they felt it was the perfect place to build a future for themselves and memories for the many families that would come to enjoy the beauty and serenity of Highland Campgrounds. They moved their family here to build their dream. Having no knowledge of campground construction but building from their hearts, they and their children created back then, what we still call now, Highland Campgrounds.
In the winter of 2002, after much contemplation John and Ruth decided they were ready to retire and hand their carefully built business to another caretaker, the Mayer Family. The Mayer’s purchased the business from John and Ruth in December of 2002. With the guidance of John and Ruth, here and there along the way, the Mayer family has worked to keep the spirit of Highland Campgrounds alive.
