Area Attractions
Gettysburg National Military Park. The park offers a full complement of summer ranger programs (mid-June through mid-August), battlefield walks, ranger-led battle walks, evening campfire programs, and special events on weekends with living history groups and band concerts.
National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. Visitors are welcome to tour (self-guided tour) the beautiful grounds of the National Shrine.
Kings Gap Environmental Historic Site. There are environmental and interpretive programs as well as hiking, cross country skiing and hunting, too!
Eisenhower National Historic Site. This was the home and farm of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Located adjacent to the Gettysburg Battlefield, the farm served the President as a weekend retreat and a meeting place for world leaders. It served as a backdrop for efforts to reduce Cold War tensions.
Soldiers National Museum. Browse through artifacts and memorabilia from the Civil War and other major American conflicts. The museum also features beautifully crafted miniature dioramas of ten major conflicts of the Civil War as well as a life-sized narrated Confederate encampment.
Lincoln Train Museum. The Toy Train Collection features over 1000 trains and dioramas illustrating the railroad’s role during the Civil War. Step onto the “Lincoln Train Ride,” board the simulated Presidential Train with President Lincoln as he travels to Gettysburg to dedicate the National Cemetery.
Jennie Wade house tour. You can even see the holes in the door through which bullets entered the small kitchen to take the life of young, innocent Jennie Wade. Authentically furnished from cellar to attic, the museum is a shrine to Jennie and to life and living during the American Civil War.
General Lee’s Headquarters Museum. The museum is located in the same stone house that General Robert E. Lee occupied during the battle of Gettysburg in the summer of 1863. Visit and see historical artifacts that tell the stories of the people who that fought the battle.
American Civil War Museum. This is an educational and inspiring experience for families or tour groups of all ages. Self-guided tours present a concise history of the Civil War era and Battle of Gettysburg.
Hall of Presidents and First Ladies. This features the area’s only complete wax collection of American Presidents and their first ladies. See what our Presidents really looked like and hear the words attributed to them as if they came from the very lips of the figures themselves.
Explore and More Children’s Museum. In the 1860’s vintage house, there are fun and developmentally appropriate activities for children ages 3 to 8, but enjoyed by children of all ages.
International Museum of Spiritual Investigations. Take a look into investigating the spiritual realm and spiritual evidence in locations of possible activities. Learn about the usage of tools, techniques, science, natural evidence, paranormal evidence, etc. in various types of paranormal investigations.
National Apple Museum and Blossom Festival. Exhibits include early picking, packing, and shipping of fruit, pest management, commercial fruit processing equipment, early orchard photographs, a recreated 1880’s farm kitchen, and a General Store. Bring the family for orchard bus tours, contests, wagon rides, live entertainment and more. Hundreds of crafters sell hand-made items, and wonderful apple foods are also available.
General Pickett’s Buffet and Battle Theater. The restaurant takes pride in terrific home-cooking, great service, and hospitality.
Adams County Winery. The winery first began operation in 1976. Nestled against the South Mountains, they have an ideal climate for growing grapes that, in turn, make many quality wines to enjoy.
